Jugli (Joglei) Tangsa Community
Tirap District, Arunachal Pradesh, India
In contemporary times, the majority of the Jugli (Joglei) Tangsa community has embraced the Christian marriage system. Despite this shift, a handful of elders residing in various Jugli-speaking villages still retain knowledge of, or have personally experienced, the traditional Jugli marriage system. Nanman Jugli, a native speaker and member of the Jugli community, is driven by a profound curiosity to uncover the intricacies of the traditional Jugli marriage practices.
To delve into this historical legacy of his people, Nanman embarked on a journey across several Jugli Tangsa villages, including Rangran, Lunglong, Rima, and Kantang. His mission has been to compile oral histories from the living witnesses of Jugli marriage traditions who continue to share their experiences today. Through this meticulous process, Nanman aspires to revive and preserve the fading knowledge of the traditional Jugli marriage system, shedding light on a cultural heritage that has endured the test of time.
